Procession Honors Fil-Am Police Officer Austin Machitar

San Diego, California — A solemn procession was held on August 30 to pay tribute to Fil-Am police officer Austin Machitar, who tragically lost his life in a pursuit crash in San Diego.

First responders from the San Diego Fire-Rescue and the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) gathered on bridges near the State Route 52 interchange to honor Machitar. The procession, which marked his final journey from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to El Camino Memorial in Sorrento Valley, was a poignant reminder of the officer’s service and sacrifice.

Machitar, who served with the SDPD for about five and a half years, was remembered for his dedication and cheerful personality. SDPD Chief Scott Wahl described Machitar as an exceptional officer with an infectious smile and a passion for his work.

The community has come together to support Machitar’s family, with tributes including flowers and candles at the crash site and Northern Division police station. A fundraising campaign by the San Diego Police Officers Association has raised over $173,000 to assist the affected families.
