Flores de Mayo Celebration Showcases Community Spirit

San Francisco, California – The annual Flores de Mayo celebration brought together students, families, educators, and community partners to showcase culture, creativity, and diversity. Organized by Bessie Carmichael School PK-8 and the Filipino Education Center (FEC), the event highlighted the importance of preserving heritage and fostering understanding among diverse communities.

San Francisco Community Gathers for Annual Cultural Celebration

The Flores de Mayo celebration was held on May 22, 2026, with participation by students, teachers, families, and local organizations. Representatives from the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco attended the event, which featured performances and presentations that reflected the many cultures represented in the school community.

Under the guidance of Filipino American educator Charitylynn Ramilo, students showcased visual art, literary works, music, and dance performances. The event was supported by students’ families, educators, and community partners, including the San Francisco Public Library’s Filipino American Center and the South of Market Community Action Network.

While Flores de Mayo originated as a traditional Filipino observance held throughout May, the event has grown beyond its roots. Today, it serves as a broader celebration of the diverse cultures, histories, and traditions that enrich San Francisco’s multicultural community.
