Authorities reported the truck struck a Kia Forte from behind, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving a Nissan Frontier and a Toyota Camry. Two young men inside the Kia, ages 16 and 20, died from their injuries.
Five additional people were transported to nearby hospitals, including two individuals reported to have suffered major injuries. CHP officers later arrested the truck driver after authorities said he fled the crash scene on foot. The investigation remains ongoing.
