Beverly Hills, California — At the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) 2025 closing gala, Fil-Am first responders who battled recent Los Angeles wildfires received a standing ovation. The event, held at the Beverly Hilton, recognized their bravery and courage.
Attendees, including First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, witnessed over a dozen Filipino American firefighters and police officers take the stage. Hollywood actor Reggie Lee introduced the honorees, acknowledging their selfless work during the devastating fires that impacted thousands. MIFF Chairman Omen Ortiz dedicated the festival to these individuals, highlighting their valiant efforts.
Among those honored was Arleen Bocatija Rojas, the Los Angeles Police Department’s first Filipina officer. She expressed gratitude for the recognition and hoped it would inspire further Fil-Am involvement in public service. The ceremony acknowledged LA County Fire Department personnel, including Captains Allan Anolin and David Dantic, alongside LAPD officers like Edward Acedillo and Mariko Jackson.
The evening featured performances by Deborah Cox, Sofronio Vasquez, and Morissette Amon. Awards were presented to figures such as Lily Monteverde and Niko Santos, with “Hello, Love, Again” receiving the Worldwide Box Office Hit Trailblazer Award. First Lady Araneta-Marcos was presented with the Visionary Award for Championing Philippine Cinema.
