Daly City, California — A candlelight vigil will be held at Daly City Hall on March 7th to commemorate the second anniversary of Frances Kendra Lucero’s death. This Fil-am mother was fatally shot in front of her children. Her mother, Liezel Chan Lucero, will lead the event, marking her transition to domestic violence prevention advocacy.
Frances Kendra Lucero’s death, attributed to her former partner, spurred her mother to raise awareness about domestic violence. Chan Lucero aims to unite the community to ensure victims’ voices are heard. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing warning signs in potentially abusive relationships urging families to establish safety plans.
Following her daughter’s death, Chan Lucero has actively engaged with community organizations like ALLICE and CORA, advocating for increased awareness of domestic violence. She stresses the need for open communication in relationships and recognizing potential violence indicators.
The Lucero family has also established social media platforms, including “Justice for Frances” on Facebook, to provide updates on the ongoing legal proceedings and to raise awareness about domestic violence. Despite trial postponements, the family remains determined to pursue justice.
Chan Lucero, emphasizing connection as a vital component in preventing domestic violence, calls for a collective effort to rebuild supportive relationships. She encourages those affected by domestic violence to seek assistance from organizations like CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse), which offers a 24-hour hotline.
