Deadly Anaheim 5 Freeway Crash Kills Two, Injures Two

Anaheim, California – A deadly Anaheim 5 Freeway crash left two people dead and two others injured early Thursday morning. The single-vehicle collision also caused lane closures and significant delays for drivers traveling through Orange County.

Two Killed in Early-Morning Crash Near Lincoln Avenue

The fatal Anaheim 5 Freeway crash was reported at about 3:15 a.m. on September 3 near the southbound Lincoln Avenue off-ramp. According to reports citing the California Highway Patrol, the vehicle appeared to miss the exit, leave the freeway, and travel down an embankment.

Two of the four occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Updated reports confirmed that two people died, while two others were transported to a hospital, with their conditions not immediately released.

Authorities closed two southbound lanes and the Lincoln Avenue off-ramp while investigators examined the scene. A SigAlert remained in place during the morning commute, causing substantial traffic delays along the freeway.

What California Law May Mean After a Serious Freeway Crash

For families affected by an Anaheim 5 Freeway crash, legal questions may depend on why the vehicle left the roadway and whether negligence contributed.

Under California Civil Code § 1714, people are generally responsible for injuries caused by failing to use ordinary care. If someone’s wrongful act or negligence results in a death, qualifying family members may also have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim under California Code of Civil Procedure § 377.60.

Evidence that may help clarify what happened includes:

  • CHP collision reports and scene photographs
  • Vehicle inspection or maintenance records
  • Witness statements and available video footage
  • Medical, funeral, and financial records
  • Evidence involving roadway conditions or other responsible parties

Because the cause remains under investigation, fault should not be assumed before the available evidence is reviewed.
