California — A Filipino green card holder deported after more than two decades in the United States has drawn attention among Filipino American communities as immigration enforcement actions continue nationwide. The case involved a California resident who was removed from the country after a final order from the immigration court.
California Immigration Authorities Deport Filipino Green Card Holder After Court Order
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that a Filipino green card holder was deported from the United States on August 18, 2026, after a final removal order from an immigration judge on July 2. The individual entered the country as a lawful permanent resident through California in 2004 and lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years.
DHS stated that the deportation followed prior criminal convictions in California. These included voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault with a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.
Officials also linked the case to a 2018 San Diego freeway shooting that resulted in the death of a U.S. Navy sailor. The individual was later convicted and sentenced to prison before immigration proceedings moved forward.
In a separate case, a Filipina nurse in Arizona was detained by federal immigration agents at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Her family said she had no criminal record and was working as a nurse with a valid work permit. A court hearing on her immigration case was scheduled for September 4.
