The event was organized by Cynthia Bonta, Pia Barton, Joann Guitarte, and Kristoffer Perez in honor of Filipino American History Month. Opening ceremonies featured heartfelt speeches linking Filipino history to today’s social and political climate.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta, the first Filipino American to hold the position, spoke about courage and democracy, referencing milestones like the People Power Revolution. Alameda County Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas also addressed the crowd, urging support for Proposition 50, a temporary redistricting measure on California’s November ballot.
