California — Stanley, a well-known American drinkware company, has announced a recall of 2.6 million travel mugs after reports of defective lids posing a burn risk. The recall, issued Thursday, affects the Switchback and Trigger Action models, as confirmed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
According to the CPSC, the lids may shrink due to heat or repeated use, causing them to detach unexpectedly and potentially spill hot liquids. Stanley has received 91 global reports of this issue, with 38 burn injuries incidents.
The recalled Stanley mugs, sold at prices ranging from $20 to $50, were available across the U.S. in various retail stores and online platforms. The Seattle-based company emphasized its commitment to product quality and safety, pledging to improve designs to ensure customer satisfaction.
This recall follows an unrelated incident earlier this year in California, where a woman was arrested for allegedly stealing 65 Stanley cups valued at approximately $2,500 from a sporting goods store.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled products and contact Stanley for a refund or replacement. For more details, visit the CPSC’s website.
