San Marcos, California — A rideshare driver has been arrested after a 21-year-old passenger reported an alleged sexual assault during an early-morning trip in North San Diego County. Investigators are now asking anyone who may have had a similar encounter with the driver to come forward.
Rideshare Passenger Reports Sexual Assault Along State Route 78
The reported incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on September 17 while the passenger was traveling westbound on State Route 78 toward the Twin Oaks Valley Road exit in San Marcos. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman reported later that afternoon that her rideshare driver had touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her during the trip.
CHP investigators identified the driver as 50-year-old Ramon Ochoa Reyes and arrested him following the investigation. Authorities said he was later released on bond. Uber subsequently removed his access to its platform.
Because Reyes worked as a rideshare driver, investigators are seeking others who may have had similar encounters. The CHP Border Division Major Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation.
