Honoring Filipino American History at Bessie Carmichael

San Francisco,  California — The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco was represented by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay. He celebrated Filipino American History Month by attending the FEC Galing Bata Bilingual Program event at Bessie Carmichael Elementary School in the SOMA Pilipinas Filipino Cultural Heritage District.

Vice Consul Baccay addressed the gathering of Filipino and Filipino American students, emphasizing the importance of the youth in shaping the future of Filipino American history.

He appreciated the FEC Galing Bata’s commitment to promoting the Filipino language and highlighting its significance in cultural preservation.

During the event, he presented two Filipino books from the Consulate’s Sentro Rizal Library to FEC Galing Bata Director Charm Consolacion.

Since its inception in 2001, the FEC Galing Bata program has focused on fostering biliteracy in English and Filipino. It also emphasizes multicultural education for Bessie Carmichael School students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

This initiative is part of the San Francisco Unified School District’s “World Language in Elementary School” Program. The program facilitates teaching the Filipino language in the city’s public elementary schools.
