Several Injured After Vehicle Swerves Following Animal Collision
Authorities say the Highway 41 crash happened around 4 a.m. south of Mecca Lane near Coarsegold in Madera County. Investigators reported that a 59-year-old driver in a Honda CR-V stopped after spotting a horse standing in the roadway.
Moments later, a second vehicle, a Honda Accord driven by a 71-year-old Merced resident, collided with the horse before crashing into the stopped SUV. The Accord then traveled down an embankment and overturned on its side.
Emergency crews transported five people to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The Accord driver and three passengers reportedly suffered moderate to major head injuries and were airlifted for treatment.
The CR-V driver sustained minor to moderate injuries. CHP stated that all occupants were wearing seat belts, and impairment is not believed to be a factor. The horse died at the scene.
What Injured California Families Should Know After a Serious Crash
