Reseda, California — On Saturday, May 3, the Filipino American community gathered at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Reseda to celebrate its first Santacruzan, a traditional Filipino religious procession honoring the search for the Holy Cross by Empress Helena.
The event, led by Reverend Father Mauricio Goloran and organized with Simon Paculan of the Our Lady of Antipolo Reseda Chapter, began with a solemn procession from the parish school and concluded with a Mass at the church. Members of the Disciples of the Divine Trinity Group participated actively, contributing to the spiritual tone of the ceremony.
One of the standout moments featured young women, known as Reynas, symbolizing religious virtues. They wore elegant gowns created by Filipino American designer Carl Andrada, adding to the occasion’s cultural richness.
Hon. Ralph Jacob Viloria, Vice Consul of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, served as Hermano Mayor.
“This event reflects not only our shared faith but also the richness of our Filipino heritage,” said Fr. Goloran. Paculan also noted the community’s enthusiastic involvement in bringing the tradition to life.
With broad support from local organizations and volunteers, the parish hopes this first Santacruzan will pave the way for an enduring annual celebration.
