Lancaster, California — Tragedy struck over the weekend in Lancaster, California, where a house fire and shooting claimed the lives of four individuals, including two Filipino American siblings.
Authorities identified the siblings as 26-year-old Christine Asa-Ca and 21-year-old Javi Maquindang. Asa-Ca’s fiancé, 24-year-old Edwin Garcia, was also among the victims.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) reported the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on North Tabler Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched at 1:43 a.m. and extinguished the blaze by 2:20 a.m. According to LASD, the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and a fourth individual, yet to be identified, also perished.
A teenage family member who made the 911 call stayed hidden in her room out of fear during the incident. LASD Detective Steve DeJong noted, “She stayed in her room because she was scared, and that’s when the deputies were able to locate her, extract her from the home.“
Family members described Christine and Javi as compassionate individuals with bright futures.
