Los Angeles, California – A Filipino American postal worker from Carson, California, faces up to 30 years in federal prison after admitting to a mail theft scheme involving stolen checks, credit cards, and personal information. Prosecutors say the former Torrance letter carrier flaunted illicit gains on social media, highlighting luxury purchases and cash.
What Led to the Arrest and Guilty Plea?
Mary Ann Magdamit, 31, formerly employed at the Torrance Main Post Office, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud in Los Angeles federal court. Authorities revealed that she stole mail containing checks, debit and credit cards, and personal identification details from her position as a letter carrier.
Magdamit activated stolen cards online, made purchases, and sold them to accomplices. She arranged for co-conspirators to cash stolen checks using counterfeit IDs.
In December 2024 and July 2025, searches uncovered over 130 stolen cards, Treasury checks, luxury goods, and a loaded ghost gun. Court records also show she used stolen cards for international trips. Her sentencing is scheduled for October 27.
