Oakland, California — A tragic multi-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Fil-Am woman, Criscel Dela Rosa, on Sunday in Oakland. The incident, allegedly caused by a suspected drunk driver, occurred on the I-880 North Embarcadero, leaving the community in mourning.
Criscel was driving her Tesla Model Y when a Freightliner box truck collided with her vehicle, inflicting fatal injuries. Her husband, Michael Dela Rosa, shared the devastating news on a GoFundMe page, expressing his disbelief and heartache. He described the agonizing experience of trying to reach Criscel after receiving a call about the accident, only to be met with silence.
Michael rushed to the scene, where he was confronted with the wreckage of his wife’s car. Overcome with grief, he recounted the pain of witnessing the aftermath and imagining Criscel’s suffering.
He shared that Criscel, who typically had Sundays off, had decided to go to work that day. The crash happened during her commute around 5:30 a.m. The suspected drunk driver was apprehended at the scene.
Michael remembered Criscel as a kind and devoted woman, a loving wife, a great mother, and an active church member. He spoke of the profound loss felt by their family, including their 7-year-old daughter.
To help with funeral expenses and bring Criscel’s siblings from the Philippines, Michael initiated a fundraising campaign that has surpassed its initial goal, a testament to the love and respect Criscel inspired.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Dela Rosa family. May you find strength and solace in the cherished memories of Criscel and the love that surrounds you during this period of mourning. The Filipino American community in California stands with you in grief and solidarity.
