Fil-Am Teen Attacked During Basketball Game in Alameda

Alameda, California — A Filipino American teenager was attacked during an AAU basketball game in Alameda, California, over the weekend, sparking outrage within the Fil-Am community.

During an inbounds play, a Fil-Am teen from Tumakbo United Basketball was knocked to the ground by an opposing player from Payton’s Place. Amid the chaos, another player from Payton’s Place stomped on the fallen teen’s head before officials could intervene.

The incident has led to significant concern and anger, particularly within the Filipino American community. The teenager’s parents have filed a police report, and authorities have launched an investigation.

In response, Payton’s Place and some of their parent coaches apologized on Instagram, condemning the violent act and asserting that it does not represent their program’s values. Both teams are now actively working to address the situation and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The attack has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of sportsmanship and player safety in youth sports.
