Fil-Am Mother and Daughter Killed During Custody Exchange

Los Angeles, California – The deaths of a Fil-Am mother and daughter during a child custody exchange in Georgia have left a community reeling in grief. The tragic incident underscores the dangers families may face in domestic disputes and highlights the devastating ripple effects for loved ones left behind.

Deadly Shooting During Custody Exchange

Authorities confirmed that 41-year-old Melissa Cui Domingo and her mother, 74-year-old Elizabeth Cui Domingo, were fatally shot on September 7, 2025, in the parking lot of an Augusta Best Buy. The suspect, Melissa’s former husband, Hajir Talebzadeh, 41, was arrested and now faces two counts of murder and one count of cruelty to children.

The incident occurred during a custody exchange involving Melissa’s 5-year-old son, Michael, who tragically witnessed the shooting but was physically unharmed. A GoFundMe campaign was later created to help cover funeral expenses, return the victims’ remains to Maryland, and provide immediate support for Michael, who is now under the care of child protective services.

Court records show that Melissa and Talebzadeh divorced in November 2024 after years of reported abuse. Just days before the shooting, Melissa had been cleared of charges in a separate case involving Talebzadeh, after the court ruled that her actions were in self-defense.
