Sacramento, California — California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the appointment of 10 Superior Court judges on Thursday, including Fil-Am lawyer Alexander P. Sario, who will serve in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Sario, a seasoned trial attorney, has worked at the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender’s Office since 2008, specializing in serious felonies and homicide cases at the Pomona Courthouse. His earlier experience includes serving as a deputy public defender in Riverside County from 2007 to 2008 and practicing business litigation at Palmer, Lombardi & Donohue LLP from 2006 to 2007.
An active member of the legal community, Sario has held a long-standing position on the Board of Directors for the Philippine American Bar Association (PABA). He earned his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, San Diego.
Sario will fill the vacancy left by Judge Michael L. Stern’s retirement. This appointment is part of Newsom’s broader effort to diversify California’s judiciary. Earlier this year, the governor appointed three other Filipino American judges: Bryan Clavecilla, Cristina Legaspi, and Lowrie Mendoza.
This announcement further highlights the increasing representation of Filipino Americans in California’s judicial system.
