San Francisco, California –The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco recently organized a significant event highlighting the role of Filipina Culture Bearers in the San Francisco Bay Area. The “Women and Philippine Culture: A Forum with Filipina Culture Bearers in the Bay Area” occurred on March 22, 2024, at Sentro Rizal, the consulate’s hub for Philippine arts and culture.
The forum, part of the Consulate’s ongoing Women’s Month series, celebrated National Women’s Month in the Philippines and Women’s History Month in America. It brought together a panel of distinguished Filipina cultural educators, practitioners, and advocates. Moderated by Vice Consul Adrian Baccay, the event focused on the pivotal role of Filipino women as bearers of Philippine culture in the United States.
Consul General Neil Ferrer emphasized their significance as ‘cultural ambassadors,’ fostering a deeper appreciation of Filipino heritage in a multicultural society. The panel, including notable figures like Charm Consolacion, Sonia Delen, Stephanie Herrera, Rachel Lozada, Keesa Ocampo, and Dr. Lily Ann Villaraza, shared insights into their experiences, motivations, and efforts in promoting Philippine culture and advocacy.
Deputy Consul General Raquel Solano concluded the forum by highlighting the role of women in advancing culture and advocating for gender equality. She emphasized the importance of passing on positive values to future generations and fostering a culture of peace, equality, and respect.
