Authentic Kamayan Experience at Filipino Restaurant

Anaheim, California — A Filipino restaurant in Anaheim is providing an authentic dining experience that extends beyond just taste. Lola’s By MFK (Modern Filipino Kitchen) brings the traditional Filipino practice of kamayan—eating with one’s hands—to the California dining scene.

The restaurant, owned and led by executive chef Henry Pineda, highlights Filipino culinary traditions with a modern twist.

Pineda, who has a Guatemalan father and a Filipino mother, notes that while some Filipino Americans may not have experienced kamayan before, the practice offers a unique and immersive way to connect with their heritage.

Pineda mentioned that first-time diners are often surprised by the practice of eating with bare hands, but the experience quickly becomes enjoyable.

Regular customer Nick appreciates how kamayan enhances his enjoyment of classic Filipino dishes like chicken adobo and ube pancakes.

Melanie, another diner, emphasized the communal aspect of kamayan, describing it as an integral part of Filipino culture that brings people together. Fellow diner Lin echoed this sentiment, stressing that the experience is a meaningful way to connect with Filipino traditions.

In addition to kamayan, Lola’s By MFK offers traditional Filipino breakfast options, such as tocino and longganisa, further enriching the cultural dining experience.
