Galt, California — A driver was killed Tuesday morning in a fiery crash in Galt involving a construction truck and a big rig near Highway 99. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
Driver Dies After Highway 99 Collision Near Twin Cities Road
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at about 4 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, south of Twin Cities Road. A passenger vehicle traveling in the far-left lane reportedly struck a construction truck ahead of it.
The impact caused the vehicle to move across the highway lanes and onto the right shoulder before coming down onto West Stockton Boulevard. CHP said the car entered the path of a big rig, and the driver was unable to stop before the vehicles collided.
The passenger vehicle then caught fire. Its driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the big rig driver was not injured. CHP continues to investigate the fiery crash in Galt and the circumstances surrounding the initial collision.
