Woodside, California — A Woodside bicycle accident claimed the life of an East Palo Alto cyclist after a sports car reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic on Skyline Boulevard. Authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal collision and the circumstances leading up to it.
Cyclist Killed in Skyline Boulevard Crash
Authorities are investigating a fatal bicycle accident in Woodside that occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday on State Route 35, commonly called Skyline Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Porsche was traveling north at high speed when its driver failed to follow a curve and entered the opposing lane.
The vehicle then struck a southbound cyclist head-on. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified the cyclist as 34-year-old Jakub Solovsky of East Palo Alto. He died at the scene. CHP reported that the Porsche driver, alone in the vehicle, was uninjured.
Investigators do not currently believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision. The cause and circumstances remain under investigation.
Legal Considerations After a Fatal Bicycle Crash
Under California Vehicle Code § 22350, drivers must travel at a safe speed for the current road and traffic conditions. Speed, lane position, and control around a curve may become key evidence in a civil claim.
A wrongful death claim may seek compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Lost financial support and household services
- Loss of companionship, care, and guidance
Relevant evidence includes CHP report, vehicle data, photos, witness accounts, and roadway measurements. Parties can request a CHP collision report, and California generally allows two years to file claims for death caused by wrongful conduct or negligence.
