Fil-Am Nurse Faces Job Risk Over DACA Renewal Delays

Los Angeles, California – A Fil-Am nurse working in California is facing possible job loss due to delays tied to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewal process. The situation has drawn attention from healthcare workers and immigrant advocates, raising broader concerns about employment stability for DACA recipients in the medical field.

San Francisco Nurse at Risk Following Work Authorization Delays

A 34-year-old Fil-Am nurse employed at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco may lose her position after delays in renewing her DACA work authorization.

According to reports, the nurse immigrated to the United States from the Philippines at age two and has worked in the healthcare system for more than a decade. National Nurses United (NNU) stated that some DACA healthcare workers are being placed on unpaid leave when their employment documents expire, even though federal renewals are still pending.

Demonstrators, including fellow nurses and medical staff, recently gathered outside Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco to show support for the affected healthcare workers. They also called for temporary employment protections while DACA renewal documents remain pending.

DACA recipients must renew their status and work permits every 2 years. Immigration processing delays can create employment uncertainty, especially for professionals in critical industries such as healthcare.
