Los Angeles, California — The annual Simbang Gabi celebration brought together thousands of Filipino Catholics in Southern California, reaffirming faith, tradition, and shared identity within the Filipino-American community. Held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, the event reflected the enduring cultural and spiritual significance of Simbang Gabi for Filipinos living far from home, while emphasizing unity during a season often marked by both hope and hardship.
Annual Simbang Gabi Kick-Off in Los Angeles
The Simbang Gabi Kick-off Mass took place on December 15, 2025, beginning with a traditional Parade of Parols at 5:45 p.m.
Representatives from various parishes across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles carried handcrafted Filipino lanterns made from capiz, seashells, and abaca, symbolizing hope and resilience. Members of the Philippine Consulate General participated in the procession, reflecting strong community support.
The Holy Mass followed at 6:30 p.m. and was presided over by Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, with concelebrating bishops, priests, and deacons. Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz and his family served as offertory bearers at the Eucharistic celebration.
The gathering highlighted Simbang Gabi as one of the largest expressions of Filipino faith and solidarity in the state of California.
