San Diego, California — Communities across Southern California gathered to honor service members on Veterans Day, with events highlighting unity, remembrance, and cultural pride. This year, a Fil-Am mayor played a central role in one of the region’s largest celebrations, drawing attention from Filipino Americans across the state.
Fil-Am Mayor Leads San Diego’s Veterans Day Parade
At 10 a.m., San Diego’s annual Veterans Day Parade began its march along Harbor Drive, running between the County Administration Center and the USS Midway Museum. Mayor Todd Gloria, a proud Fil-Am mayor, served as grand marshal alongside several surviving World War II veterans.
Local government buildings, including county offices, public health clinics, libraries, and community centers, were closed for the holiday. Essential services, such as law enforcement and emergency animal response, continued uninterrupted.
Events also took place throughout Los Angeles County, from Pasadena’s tribute to Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Col. Raymond G. Harvey to Mission Hills’ San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade. Other cities, including West Hollywood, Glendale, Redondo Beach, and Carson, hosted ceremonies honoring diverse veteran communities.
Southern California Honors Veterans Through Community Events
Across the region, cities organized programs to honor military service in meaningful ways:
- Pasadena highlighted historic military contributions, including a flyover by restored World War II aircraft.
- West Hollywood focused on the visibility and service of transgender veterans during its morning ceremony.
- Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills held its 66th annual commemoration with patriotic music and a wreath-laying ceremony.
- Veterans received free meals, ride tickets, and admission to Pacific Park and the Queen Mary in Long Beach.
- Multiple cities hosted family-friendly activities, cultural performances, and opportunities to thank service members personally.
