Bakersfield, California – An early-morning rollover crash on I-5 north of Lerdo Highway left a Sacramento man dead and another person injured. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the cause of a single-vehicle accident that occurred near Buttonwillow, a route often traveled by families heading through Kern County.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on October 31, CHP officers responded to reports of a vehicle rollover on the northbound side of I-5, just north of Lerdo Highway. Investigators stated that a 30-year-old woman from Sacramento was driving a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser at about 70 mph when the vehicle drifted between lanes before veering off the roadway.
The SUV overturned on the shoulder and came to rest upright. Tragically, a 32-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical. A 1-year-old girl in a car seat was unharmed. Authorities have ruled out alcohol and drug involvement.
